Aigai, called Vergina today, is the place that was the center of Macedonia during the reign of Philip II.
The king of Macedon and father of Alexander the Great, Philip II,had been buried here. Certainly, in Europe, there is no comparable museum, housed in its original space, such as the tomb of Philip. The famous tubas were the graves of Macedonians. Fromat least 300 tombs, only this one had never been looted. The visit will enchant us since, not only the area but also the rich finds are impressive.
We continue to the sacred site of the ancient Macedonians – Dion – where Alexander the Great went to ask the help of Gods before leaving for the expedition to Asia.
The Temple of Isis, the villa of Dionysus with the mosaic ofamazing art and the whole site is a surprise to visitors, since it is located in the shadow of the legendary mountain of mythology, Mount Olympus.
Visit at the Archaeological Museum, where a unique musical instrument finding –Hydraulis, impresses, and the number of currency and all the exhibits highlight the magnitude of the importance of Dion.
We continue to the village Litohoro where we have our lunch. After lunch we will have a wonderful walk in the canyon of Enippeas, to arrive to the place where Aphrodite tooka bath. The walk lasts 1:30 hour with the wonderful feeling of nature onOlympus of Gods.
Return to Thessaloniki at 18:00.
